ECLAC urges a true collective commitment to address the climate emergency at the closing of Pre COP 25

The Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena, urged the countries of the region to deepen regional cooperation and reach a true collective and simultaneous commitment to address the climate emergency, during the closure of the preparatory meeting for the Conference of the Parties, Pre COP 25, which ended today in San José, Costa Rica.

The high representative of the United Nations called to move towards a new paradigm of cooperation that integrates less asymmetric financial and technology transfer schemes between industrialized and developing countries, and that considers the gaps to be closed in half income countries.

During her speech, Alicia Bárcena affirmed that cooperation is needed that addresses the international asymmetry between emissions and vulnerability, and urged to implement energy efficiency actions, to ration or gradually eliminate fossil fuel subsidies without punishing poor households.
