Street Health Program
Program is an initiative from the exchange trainees at Fundación Biosfera, their objective is to generate environmental awareness by means of a campaign that shows the research that happened at streets 7, 8 and Italia, Dardo Rocha and San Martín squares in La Plata – Buenos Aires.
The trainees walked through said streets and squares and accounted the trash cans on type, quantity and conservation state. They also spoke to the citizens about their perception about the trash problem of La Plata.

It was found that the citizens who pass through those locations believe that clean streets are important, but they don’t know the governmental actions that take place with the objectives of solving the issues that exist. However, the municipal government also seems to not care about the environmental education of its citizens.
The people also believe that there aren’t enough trash cans in the streets, although there is a mean of 1 trash can to each 3 people. Maybe the issue is the spatial distribution of said trash cans, as an example, Italia Square is visited by many people during the day, it’s by far the most visited Square, but it is one the places with fewer trash cans.
The cleanliness of the streets is a problem of governmental and citizen responsibility. The government has the responsibility of educating the people about the environmental issues. However, the citizens need to help each other and comprehend that the city is also their home and we all share it.
